Preserving the history of African Americans in College Park, Maryland.

Lakeland High School was built in 1928. The Lakeland community joined with their neighbors in Bladensburg, North Brentwood, Ammendale, Muirkirk, and Laurel to request that the school board approve construction of a high school for African Americans. Lakeland was selected as the site for the new high school due to its central location and the availability of train transportation.
