Preserving the history of African Americans in College Park, Maryland.

Lakeland Heritage Sites

Many structures important to the Lakeland legacy have fallen victim to time or local government programs. Approximately two-thirds of our buildings changed ownership and were demolished at the demand of the City of College Park and Prince Georges County Board of Education. Understanding these losses has brought a greater value to the spaces that remain.

On this page we recognize Lakeland Legacy Sites and share some of the stories they witnessed. The first sites recognized are in two categories. Century Sites, those dating back at least one century and Historic Sites, a group of three homes for which historic designation has already been granted after a request from the homeowners.
