Please come show your support for LCHP. On  Monday, July  19th at 6pm Council Chairman Thomas Dernoga will present LCHP with a grant check in the College Park Community Center on Pierce Avenue. It is important that you come and show LCHP is an asset to our community. You will also be able to thank Mr. Dernoga for his help. Remember it is election time. That evening we will also give an update on LCHP and  help with plans for Heritage Weekend 2010. See you next Monday.

LCHP was the guest of the Washington Brazilian Seventh Day Adventist Church in the historic Lakeland School building for the LCHP Black History Celebration. The event featured presentations by University of Maryland Graduate Students in Historic Preservation who had spent the semester working with the Lakeland Community Heritage Project to investigate the history of the community on the east side of the tracks.. Students presented their research findings on patterns of settlement, people, employment, housing, and neighborhood institutions. Many audience members were impressed by the fine work achieved by the students and the members of the Lakeland Community Heritage project would like to thank Dr. Mary Sies and all of her students for their hard work over the last 6 months.
